JUNE CALLWOOD OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FOR VOLUNTARISM
Susan Watson was crowned at the Annual General Meeting of The Heart of Hastings Hospice Inc. on June 21, 2010. The award is named in honour of June Callwood, a volunteer, community activist, member of the Order of Canada, and founder of Casey House. Susan has most certainly met the criteria of an outstanding volunteer, giving of herself, her time, her skills, with unconditional friendship…willingly and with sincere concern. The award will be presented to Susan at the annual conference of the Hospice Association of Ontario in September.

AWARD OF MERIT (Annual General Meeting June 21, 2010)
Rev. Janet Weller paid tribute to Doris Bush, Coordinator of Volunteer Program, in acknowledgement of the Award of Merit that Doris had received on May 12th. This award is an annual presentation by the Rotary Club of Quinte Sunrise, to a nurse in the Quinte Region "who demonstrates exemplary nursing practice in their chosen specialty and makes a noteworthy contribution to the health care of our community." The award comes with a $500 donation to the charity of the winner's choice. Doris chose The Heart of Hastings Hospice! The presentation was the highlight of a dinner at the Banquet Centre in Belleville, hosted by the Quinte chapter of the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) and the Ontario Nurses Association (ONA) Local 3, to mark International Nurses Week. This is Doris's 45th year in nursing. Outstanding work, Doris! You wear a lot of hats. Congratulations…and thank you.

PASHMINAS FOR SALE!
Well done, Sheila Barcier for raising $1,780 selling 89 colourful pashminas…at Hospice events, at the market, at Madoc Fair, on the street, anywhere Sheila could, as only Sheila can? At last count she had 8 left to sell - a lovely gift, for someone's birthday or Mother's Day? The pashminas were purchased in Kandahar Afghanistan by a resident of Centre Hastings who worked there for seven months with the Canadian Armed Forces personnel.
Our biggest heartfelt thank-you, Sheila

VOLUNTEER SUPPORT GROUP, MONTROSE INN
BELLEVILLE, AUGUST 2009 - was a wonderful summer afternoon outing. Following a half hour visit on the porch, we were invited to the dining room of the Inn for High Tea at 2 pm - a delicious lunch of delicate sandwiches and cookies. After a tour of the beautiful Inn, one of our group was given permission to entertain on the antique piano. It was an unforgettable afternoon with friends who give so much to their community through the work of Hospice.

GOLF FOR HOSPICE JULY 2009
West Highland Golf Club, Madoc - our first attempt with a coach from the community helping us all the way. We knew we could do it but we weren't sure how. Our goal was to have FUN in the SUN. It was a day of large floating clouds but with sun breaking through at times. The fellowship was wonderful making the day a pleasure for all participants even those who "won" the booby prize. Thanks for being good sports, and special thanks to all our supporters who donated prizes and sponsored holes. Looking forward to our next tournament on July 10th, 2010 - sure to be bigger and better!
