WHAT IS THE HOSPICE?
The Heart of Hastings Hospice is an in-residence support service provided by trained volunteers. Hospice also has registered nurses as contact persons to help with your questions and concerns.
You can contact Hospice anytime from diagnosis of your illness. We will follow you along in whatever way is helpful to you and your family.
The Hospice is committed to improving the quality of life for those facing the diagnosis of any life-threatening illness. The Hospice volunteer supports in the home to relieve stress for both patient and family.
All information is treated with complete privacy and is not given to other agencies without consent of the client.
HOSPICE GOALS
The first priority of the Hospice is to provide support and care to patients and families in their residence - home, nursing home or retirement home, or hospital. The volunteer coordinator will support you if you do not wish to have a volunteer in your home.
Hospice wants to get involved from diagnosis of a life-threatening illness and walk on with you.
Bereavement support individually or in a group is also available.
Representatives of The Heart of Hastings Hospice are available to speak to service clubs, church groups, and other interested organizations.
SERVICES
The Hospice volunteers function as extended family members, providing support for both the patient and their family. "We are whoever you want us to be".
Volunteers provide companionship for the ill person by talking, listening, or sitting quietly with the person. They assist the caregiver by providing "time-out", running errands outside of the home - such as picking up medication or groceries, by preparing a small meal, or assisting with personal care. Volunteers may also accompany a patient to a doctor's appointment.
The Heart of Hastings Hospice accepts referrals from patients, family members, friends, visiting nurses, physicians, clergy, or home-care workers. Anyone can call Hospice!
Note that Volunteers do not provide hands-on nursing care. Services are provided in the home, hospital, nursing home or retirement homes.
